Where this comes from, and where it could be wrong
Every figure is read from Wessex Water's own charges scheme for 2026/27, twice, and only published where both readings agreed. Your actual bill depends on how much water you use and whether you have a meter, which is why the calculator on the charges page does the arithmetic.
Worth knowing about Wessex Water
Wessex does not bill surface water drainage as a separate line. It reduces the wastewater standing charge instead, from £71 to £43, where no part of the property drains rainwater to the sewer. That is what the rainwater drainage allowance means on a Wessex bill.
The unmetered standing charge is only £8 a year, the lowest here by a long way, because Wessex recovers almost everything through the rate per pound of rateable value.
The unmetered wastewater rate falls from £2.8974 to £2.7249 with the rainwater allowance. Customers in the Thames area pay slightly less again, £2.8431, and standard Thames unmetered customers pay no standing charge.
A 5 per cent allowance is applied automatically to the sewerage volume, for water not returned to the sewer.
The assessed water charges are bands rather than property types, with a lower rate for communal supplies.
