Where this comes from, and where it could be wrong

Every figure is read from Southern Water's own charges scheme for 2026/27, twice, and only published where both readings agreed. Your actual bill depends on how much water you use and whether you have a meter, which is why the calculator on the charges page does the arithmetic.

Worth knowing about Southern Water

Southern charges more per cubic metre than any other company here, for water and for sewerage, which is why its average bill is the highest in England and Wales.

Surface water drainage is charged by meter size. £50.00 is the household rate for a meter up to 20mm. It rises steeply above that, to £367.97 at 25mm.

Highway drainage is a separate £19.16 a year on both the metered and the unmetered tariff.

The £137.23 minimum applies to water, and also serves as the charge for a property with no rateable value.

The WaterSure cap is £354.00 for water and £405.00 for sewerage.

Southern's own how we calculate your bill page was still showing 2024/25 rates when we checked in August 2026. The figures here come from the charges scheme, which is the charging document.
